No more cracked skin thanks to lotion bars!

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Looking for an all-day moisturizer? This solid lotion might be the key to a better skin feel

Is your cracked skin annoying you these days? Even painful? Welcome to my world, welcome to my solution. Read why lotion bars make my life smoother.

What are lotion bars?

Until recently I was asking myself that same question. I had never used them before. They look like soap but that is not what they are.

Lotion bars are essentially a solid form of lotion made with non-greasy, moisturizing ingredients (beeswax, a butter & a carrier oil) so no harsh chemicals or additives! Although they’re solid like a bar of soap, they soften slightly when they get warm.

A lotion bar has the power to hydrate without messy, greasy cream or wasteful plastic.

Lotion bars are a great way, especially for the winter, to form a good protective barrier for your skin. Every winter, I get cracks on my fingers especially when that cold dry air hits them and lotion bars are a great way to moisturize them. Solid lotion bars are solid at room temperature and are melted by the warmth of your skin. As you warm the bar in your hands it will begin to soften. The advantages of lotion bars are that it has no preservatives, is travel friendly and is low waste.

This combination of oils, butters and beeswax seal in moisture instead of letting it escape which is called trans-dermal water loss or TWL.

Directions for use:

  • Hold it in your hands and let your body heat do the magic. Once the bar has melted, slightly apply with light massage movements to moisturize and nourish your skin.

  • You can use your lotion bar dry throughout the day or apply it to slightly damp skin after you get out of the shower. Applying it to warm, damp skin may make application a bit easier.

  • You can rub the bar directly onto your skin, working it into those tough, dry, and cracked areas on the hands, cuticles, arms, legs, knees, elbows and feet. If you want to use it as a facial moisturizer, apply it to your freshly washed face after it has dried. They’re so gentle that people with sensitive skin can really benefit from this.

  • Store your lotion bars in a cool, dry place. Too much warmth or steam could cause the product to melt.

How long can you keep them?

The lotion bar has a 1-to-2-year shelf life.

If your bar is really hard in the winter months, you can run it under warm water and it will loosen up slightly.

Honey lavender lotion bars

Ingredients: Beeswax, shea butter, jojoba + coconut oil, lavender essential oil & local honey. It's a good choice to store them in a cool, dry and dark place to avoid any melting or softening.

Honey deeply moisturizes and hydrates the skin

The enzyme activity in honey enables it to penetrate deeply into the skin and bring hydration to underlying layers.
